Patrick G. Cunningham was born to George E. and Marie (Baker) Cunningham on August 18, 1966 in Grand Island, Nebraska. Pat died from a motor vehicle accident on June 17, 2021 at the age of 54 years, 9 months and 30 days.
He graduated from Stanton High School in 1984. On January 2, 1988, Pat married Deborah Bergland in Norfolk, Nebraska. To this union, two children were born – Stephanie and Bradly. Pat’s family was his world. He enjoyed being a husband, father, and especially a grandfather! Many wonderful times were spent with Deb, Stephanie, Bradly, Amanda, Johnathon, Keene, Owen, and Leo Cunningham. Most Friday nights you could find Pat on the sidelines of a football field cheering on his brothers, son, nephews, or whichever team just happened to be playing locally. He would also head down to KC with friends and family to catch a Chiefs game whenever possible. A highlight of every year was the annual Fourth of July Party Pat and Deb hosted at their home. Pat was a doer. He was involved in many activities over the years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge – Euclid Lodge #97 and Order of the Eastern Star #250. He was a charter member of Gideons International- Gretna Camp. He was active in the Ashland Men In Mission. He was a member of the Louisville Jaycees, Nebraska Jaycee Governor #353, JCI Senator #66294, and served as a board member of the Nebraska Jaycee Foundation. Currently Pat had been serving on the Eagle Scout Board of Review. He was a member of the Louisville First United Methodist Church and was instrumental in providing breakfast for the Fair Stand every year. Pat’s pancakes and biscuits and gravy were well known! He was the Chairman of the Board for South Bend for 20 years. Pat was involved in helping and donating his time to anyone in need. He did not want any personal fanfare for any of these actions. Pat began his employment life at Schnieber’s Fine Foods/Cashway and worked there for ten years. He was then employed by Werner Enterprises for 24 years. Within the last year, Pat started working for the State of Nebraska Department of Transportation and was really enjoying his work life. Those left to cherish Pat’s memory include his Wife - Deborah Cunningham of South Bend, Children - Stephanie Cunningham of Kearney, Bradly (Amanda) Cunningham of Hastings, Grandchildren - Johnathon, Keene, Owen, and Leandro Cunningham, his Mother - Marie Cunningham, his siblings - Susan Umholtz, Sondra Schuetz, Staci (Matt) Palmer, David (Julie) Cunningham, Michael (Ashley) Cunningham, In-Laws - Roxine (Paul) Mitchell, Charles (Jolene) Bergland, Richard (Phyllis) Bergland, Ted (Bonnie) Bergland and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his Dad – George E. Cunningham, In-laws - Donavon and Helen Bergland, and Brother-in-law - Tim Bergland, and a great nephew. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cass County Fair Grounds, 8420 144th Street, Weeping Water, NE 68463. The service will be live streamed on the Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Facebook page. Memory sheets will be provided for anyone to share their memories of Pat with his family. VISITATION will be at the Cass County Fair Grounds on Tuesday, June 22 from 1-7 p.m. with Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Family will be present from 4-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
