Stanton Schools Close for Remainder of schoolyear

March 27, 2020

Under recommendation of the Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department (ELVPHD), area schools - including Stanton Community Schools - will be closing campuses and buildings for the remainder of the school year.  Continuing education opportunities will be provided to students through alternative methods.

Jointly, the regional health departments have also asked for schools assistance in supporting and encouraging strict social distancing during this time of closure.  Parents and guardians are asked to encourage students to stay home, and limit time spent with people from outside their household.

"The current priority of Stanton Community Schools continues to be our students' emotional and nutritional needs," said Superintendent Michael Sieh.

Families with children between the ages of one and 18 years of age in need of a nutritional breakfast and lunch are encouraged to contact the school at (402) 439-2250 to place an order between 7 and 9 a.m.  Meals will be delivered to children's homes.

"Our alternative education plan continues to morph every day." said Sieh.  "We are currently working through some legal challenges such as copyright, student privacy issues, and offering a free appropriate education to all students, regardless of demographic factors.  Hopefully, parents are starting to see round one of our attempts to continue education in a 'student stay-at-home' delivery model."

Parents are encouraged to contact the school with any questions.

Stanton County to hold elections by mail

March 26, 2020

Stanton County received approval from the Nebraska Secretary of State's office to conduct all elections by mail.  Primary elections were scheduled for may 12.  Stanton County has conducted elections by mail in a majority of the county precincts since 2012.

The last three precincts (Stanton A,B,C) have been approved as Election by Mail by the Nebraska Secretary of State on November 30, 2018.

As a result of being designated as an Election by Mail County, there will not be individual poll sites available throughout Stanton County.  The Stanton County Clerk's office will be a poll site for early voting.

Official ballots will be mailed on April 22, to all registered voters in Stanton County by non-forwardable and first-class mail not more than 22 days before and not less than 10 days before an election as per state statute 32-953 to 32-960.  Voters will still have the option to request an Early Voter's Ballot prior to the initial April 22 mailing, if necessary.

If a voter is considering changing political party prior to the election or needs to update their voter name or address, it is suggested they do so before April 15, so that it can be assured that the correct ballot is mailed.

Stanton County's participation in voting has increased with Election by Mail.  Many voters like the convenience of voting by mail.  Contact the Stanton County Clerk's office for more information (40) 439-2222.
