Under recommendation of the Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department (ELVPHD), area schools - including Stanton Community Schools - will be closing campuses and buildings for the remainder of the school year. Continuing education opportunities will be provided to students through alternative methods.
Jointly, the regional health departments have also asked for schools assistance in supporting and encouraging strict social distancing during this time of closure. Parents and guardians are asked to encourage students to stay home, and limit time spent with people from outside their household.
"The current priority of Stanton Community Schools continues to be our students' emotional and nutritional needs," said Superintendent Michael Sieh.
Families with children between the ages of one and 18 years of age in need of a nutritional breakfast and lunch are encouraged to contact the school at (402) 439-2250 to place an order between 7 and 9 a.m. Meals will be delivered to children's homes.
"Our alternative education plan continues to morph every day." said Sieh. "We are currently working through some legal challenges such as copyright, student privacy issues, and offering a free appropriate education to all students, regardless of demographic factors. Hopefully, parents are starting to see round one of our attempts to continue education in a 'student stay-at-home' delivery model."
Parents are encouraged to contact the school with any questions.
