At approximately 5:30 pm Pilger Fire was dispatched to a field fire, located North of Highway 275 on 573 Ave. Stanton Fire was also called for mutual aid. Both departments were able to bring the fire under control within an hour and saved the surrounding structures. No one was home at the time of the fire, and was reported by a passerby.

With a mixture of low relative humidity, dry and warmer weather conditions, and 20 mph wind gusts, the fire spread to a nearby CRP field, but was quickly contained. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Stanton and surrounding counties have been closely watching the fire index due to these conditions. The NWS is expecting these conditions to last through tomorrow before chances of rain come Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

According to area fire departments, burning outside right now is not advised until conditions improve, or until this area gets more moisture. Chances of rain are forecast for later this week, and cooler temperatures will return for next week.
