The victim of stabbing near a Stanton park has been released from the hospital. The suspect has been charged with first degree assault and is protective custody in Lincoln.
According to Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger, the stabbing occurred at the city park in Stanton shortly before 8 p.m. A 12-year-old female victim with five stab wounds to her back and arm was located in the park. The victim was stabilized by Stanton Rescue and then flown directly from the scene to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Unger said a different 12-year-old female was located several blocks from the park and taken into custody. She was arrested on charges of first degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. Unger said due to state statute not allowing those 12-and-under to be locked into detention, she was placed into protective custody and transported to a Lincoln hospital for a mental evaluation.
